How does a moon phase watch work? I have watch that has a moon that is supposed to move with the actual moon.?

I have a fossil white dial twist watch and it has a moon on it. The moon seems to only move just a little bit every 24 hours. I was wondering how do moon phase watches work.

It is called a complication, and it works with the regular watch movement; it is another dial, but instead of having it divided in 12 hours, it is divided in (usually) 8 phases, the main four (New, 1st Qrt, Full, 3rd Qrt) and then another four in between. The 'whole dial' turns at a very slow rate, since the lunar month is 29 days 12 hours and 45 minutes. Since only a fraction of the dial is in display, the part that you see is showing the current phase the moon is. It has to be 'set' or else it won't work correctly.
