How much splashage can a 50M water resistant watch take?

Can you take a shower with it on your wrist?

Watches with lowest level of water resistance are labeled simply "water resistant." They can withstand splashes of water but should not be submerged. Above that (or below it, literally speaking), the most common designations are 50 meters (1 meter is about 3.3 feet), which means the watch is suitable for swimming; 100 meters; indicating it can be worn snorkeling; 200 meters; suitable for recreational scuba diving and, believe it or not, 1,000 meters (roughly three fifths of a mile). Watches in this last category can endure deep-sea diving. Their gaskets are made of materials that can withstand the helium used in decompression chambers. Some have valves that let the wearer release the helium that has seeped into the watch so the case won't explode as the watch and diver adjust to normal atmospheric conditions, says Peter Purtschert, technical director at Breitling USA.

You can spend hours at the gym to get into shape, but the best push-up that you can do it to do a push-up away from fatty foods.

Chronograph Black Watch

water resistant watch?

I just bought a watch from fossil a (Chronograph Black Dial, Style #: CH2572). It says it is Water Resistant: Up to 10 ATM. I am and out doors guy and like to go swimming. Is it ok for me to go swimming with the watch on and if so how meany feet would be safe? Also is there a time limit that I should not go past if swimming?

I have to disagree with the others who have answered so far. Watches are not tested in water, but in air. If you want to wear a watch in the pool, then it should be rated at least 20 ATM. At 10 ATM, you could take it into the shower, but no more.

What does it mean when a watch says water resistant up to 100ft? Can you swim while wearing it?

A water resistant rating and a waterproof rating are different. Water resistant means that at the depth specified by the manufacturer, that watch will PROBABLY be ok to take down to the depth rated on the watch. Water temperature (condensation inside the watch), and whether the watch was hermatically sealed at the factory will be the deciding factors here. You wear it to that depth at your own risk.
A water proof rating means EXACTLY that. The watch is warranted by the manufacturer to be 100% waterproof to the specified depth. No condensation, no moisture inside, period.
